Clearing the clutter before you move is always a good idea. If you have items to donate, here are some great places to donate your goods in the San Antonio area.
Thrift Stores
There are thrift stores all over the San Antonio area that are more than happy to take your unwanted goods off your hands. Donating to a thrift store is one of the most convenient options because most have curbside drop-off areas so you can simply set down your stuff and go. A Google search can help you find thrift stores close to you, or find your nearest Salvation Army or Goodwill.
Animal Shelters
Get rid of old stuff and help some puppies and kitties? Sign us up! Local animal shelters and rescues are in need of tons of donated items. Pet supplies like pet beds, unopened food, and toys are helpful, but they need other, less obvious things, too. For example, old blankets and towels, baby gates, plastic containers, and even office supplies are all items you may see on an animal shelter’s wish list. Check out the donation pages for organizations like the San Antonio Humane Society, the Animal Defense League of Texas, and San Antonio Pets Alive.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity Home Centers and ReStores in San Antonio are great places to take your larger items. These stores specialize in things like appliances, lighting, furniture, mirrors, doors, and windows — anything renovation-related that could be used in a Habitat for Humanity home. Some also take smaller items like housewares, but make sure to check with the individual location.
San Antonio Public Library
Have books, DVDs, and CDs you don’t want to take to your new place? The San Antonio Public Library accepts donations of books and media on an ongoing basis. Simply drop off your items at any branch.
Social Resale Websites
Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and other resale websites are a great way to get rid of your stuff, especially if you’re interested in selling and making some money. But if you don’t want to deal with the hassle of communicating with potential buyers, most of these sites have a “free” section. Just leave your item on your curb, post your address, and say it’s first come, first serve. Then remember to take down the listing once you notice your stuff is gone!
