Ready to declutter for your move? Here are some places in Tallahassee to donate your unwanted items before it’s time to get packing.
Tallahassee Animal Service Center
Think you don’t have anything to donate because you don’t have pet food or toys? Think again! The Tallahassee Animal Service Center needs all kinds of goods for the animal shelter, including bath towels, blankets, wet wipes, paper towels, bleach, heating pads, and fleece throws.
Local Thrift Stores
Thrift stores take donations of all kinds of items, like clothes, home goods, kitchen gadgets, and more. And many provide curbside drop-off locations that make donating easy! Simply search “thrift stores” online to find the closest ones near you, or consider City Walk Urban Mission, The Living Harvest, or The Salvation Army, all of which do great work for the Tallahassee community.
Habitat for Humanity
The Big Bend Habitat for Humanity has a local ReStore, which takes donations of home improvement supplies, furniture, building materials, and more. These items are sold to the general public at 50-90% below retail to help fund Habitat for Humanity’s mission and offer inexpensive supplies to the community.
Craigslist and Facebook
There are many Facebook groups for free items, and Craigslist has an entire free section. List items and leave them on the curb for first come, first serve pickup. Just be sure that you take care of the items if they don’t get picked up — don’t leave things on the curb long term.
City Recycling
If you have items you can’t donate because of their condition, schedule a pick up with the city of Tallahassee. The city will pick up things like bulky items and electronics to be disposed of properly.
